AUBURN, Ala. – On August 13, at approximately 5:30 p.m., the Auburn Police Department responded to reports of a commercial vehicle off the roadway near mile marker 56 on the southbound side of Interstate 85. Once emergency personnel arrived, they located the vehicle approximately 40-50 yards off the roadway in the woods. Due to extensive damage to the cab of the vehicle, it took first responders some time to access and assess the victim.

First responders located one occupant deceased inside of the vehicle. The victim was a 66-year-old male from California. Additional victim identification will be available through the Lee County Coroner’s Office once next of kin notifications are completed.
